How to read Ca:P for a healthy adult dog

Both the amounts of calcium and phosphorus and their relationship need to be assessed. BARFLAB currently supports healthy adult profiles and keeps values from its implemented reference sets separate, so use the value shown for the selected source.

Growth, pregnancy, illness and therapeutic diets are outside the current profile scope and require individual assessment by a vet or animal nutritionist.

Muscle meat generally supplies far more phosphorus than calcium, so a meat-heavy recipe needs an assessed calcium source. BARFLAB keeps the ratio beside the individual calcium and phosphorus results rather than treating it as a standalone shortcut.

Calcium alone is not enough — the ratio and the whole diet matter

The ratio does not replace the absolute calcium and phosphorus results or the rest of the recipe. BARFLAB therefore shows both values and Ca:P together as part of the wider analysis.

Calcium sources differ in composition. BARFLAB uses the entered product data and shows the calculated contribution of a specific addition, but it does not establish whether a product is appropriate or safe for an individual animal.

Correcting the ratio without guessing
