Dog diet calculator — build a homemade meal and review the analysis.

For a healthy adult dog, you can manually start from an empty diet and choose the products and amounts yourself. BARFLAB supports raw, cooked and steamed diets. The calculator covers 68 analysis parameters. For nutrient results, it shows which products contribute and how much. Its calculation engine can create an optional proposal. After the proposal is generated, you can edit every product and every amount.

A homemade dog food calculator that starts with your choices

The dog food nutrient calculator provides recipe analysis in the shared editor, where you select foods and enter their amounts. You can build a recipe from an empty plan without using the generator.

For cooked or steamed food, BARFLAB uses available retention and yield factors to estimate preparation-related changes. The estimate depends on the product and method; it is not a measurement of the finished meal.

  • set up a healthy-adult dog profile and daily portion
  • choose raw, cooked or steamed preparation
  • add the products you want and enter their amounts
  • review how every edit changes the analysis

68 analysis parameters and nutrient sources

The analysis shows the whole-recipe result for 68 parameters. For nutrient results, it shows which products contribute and how much, making it possible to see what changes after you replace a food or edit its amount.

Reference thresholds are shown only when the selected implemented NRC, FEDIAF or AAFCO set defines that threshold for the parameter and profile. Not every parameter has MR, RA and SUL, and a value missing from a source is neither zero nor confirmation of a safe dose.

  • energy, protein and fat amounts
  • calcium, phosphorus and the Ca:P ratio
  • iodine, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium
  • vitamins and fatty acids, including EPA and DHA
  • nutrient sources and the share provided by foods and supplements

The optional proposal remains fully editable

If you do not want to begin with an empty plan, the calculation engine can create an optional proposal using nutritional data, the profile and available thresholds.

A proposal is a starting point for review, not an automatic conclusion that the recipe covers every requirement. After it is generated, you can change every product and every amount, and the analysis recalculates the result.

What to review in the dog diet calculator

  • the healthy-adult dog profile and estimated daily portion
  • raw, cooked or steamed preparation
  • the results of all 68 analysis parameters
  • which products provide nutrients and in what share
  • calcium, phosphorus and Ca:P in the selected reference context
  • the effect of every food, amount or supplement change
  • which thresholds the selected source actually defines

How does the dog diet calculator work?

Create a healthy-adult dog profile, choose the preparation method and add foods with their amounts. BARFLAB reviews the recipe across 68 analysis parameters. For nutrient results, it shows product sources and shares, and thresholds only when the selected source defines them.

Can I use it as a homemade dog food calculator without the generator?

Yes. You can manually start from an empty diet, add every product yourself and enter every amount. The calculation engine’s optional proposal is simply another way to start.

Does the calculator support both raw and cooked dog food?

Yes. BARFLAB supports raw, cooked and steamed diets. Preparation changes are estimated from available retention and yield factors; they are not measurements of the finished meal.

Does the proposal automatically cover every requirement?

No. It is an editable starting point for further review. Check the whole result, nutrient sources, product shares in those results and only the thresholds that the selected reference set actually defines.

Is the calculator intended for puppies or dogs with an illness?

No. The current scope covers healthy adult dogs. Growth, pregnancy, lactation, illness and therapeutic diets are not currently supported; BARFLAB does not diagnose conditions or replace individual professional assessment.
